The frightening incident occurred on March 31, 2026, while the crew was carrying out works in the area. Video footage Shared on the Big Smith News Watch Page of the incident shows two workers standing on a bridge scrambling to escape, while the operator of a mini excavator abandoned the running machine mid-operation to flee to safety.

Africanized bees, commonly known as “killer bees,” are known for their highly aggressive defensive behaviour and their tendency to swarm and attack in large numbers when their hive is disturbed. Encounters of this nature can be life-threatening, particularly in open outdoor work environments.

It is unclear whether any of the workers sustained stings or injuries during the incident.
