Teachers and students at the newly constructed North Ruimveldt Multilateral School were forced to evacuate their classrooms and offices on Tuesday due to a leaking roof.
Reports indicate that the school administration has been in conflict with education officials over ongoing defects in the building, despite previous assurances from ministers that these issues would be addressed.

“When it rains, students have to leave the classrooms, and teachers must vacate their offices because of water leaking into the building. There are so many issues, including a lack of running water and inadequate toilet facilities,” a source revealed.
In addition to the leaking roof, the school is experiencing significant electrical problems. “Since they were informed about the low voltage in the new building, the AC, fans, and fridge can’t be plugged in. All we hear is that GPL has to fix it,” the source added.
The construction of the new North Ruimveldt Secondary School was awarded to Kares Engineering Inc. for a contract value of $566.9 million. The original North Ruimveldt Multilateral School was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin on June 19, 2021.
As the issues persist, the community is calling for urgent action to ensure a safe and functional learning environment for students and staff.
