The investigation into the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Amar Jones remains active, with his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend currently in police custody, Regional Commander Kurleigh Simon confirmed to the News Room on Friday. Authorities have also seized a motor vehicle as part of the ongoing probe.
Jones, described by family and friends as a devoted father and hardworking businessman, was tragically gunned down in broad daylight on Tuesday while waiting to pick up his 5-year-old daughter along the Half Mile Public Road. The shooting occurred around 3:00 PM while Jones was inside a motor canter, a vehicle associated with his family’s tow truck, wrecking, and machinery business.
In an interview with the News Room, a close relative of Jones spoke fondly of him, describing him as a jolly and friendly individual who recently celebrated his 27th birthday on December 14. The relative noted that Amar loved playing football and was in the process of building a house.
The relative recounted the events leading up to the tragedy, stating that Amar was waiting for his daughter to arrive just ten minutes before the gunfire erupted. According to reports, Amar was with a friend in the canter and had instructed the friend to collect his daughter from the vehicle moments before the shooting happened.
Investigations indicate that an unidentified assailant fired multiple rounds in Jones’ direction before fleeing the scene. The search for this suspect is currently ongoing, leaving family and friends mourning the loss and seeking justice for Amar Jones.
