The Guyana Police Force is conducting an investigation following a tragic incident at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Sunday evening, where a 22-year-old pregnant woman reportedly died by suicide.
According to a police statement, the woman, who was a patient in the female medical ward on the top floor of the hospital, was from Schoonard, West Bank Demerara.
The incident occurred while a nursing assistant was administering medication to another patient in the ward. During this time, staff noticed the victim lying on her bed covered with a sheet. Moments later, an alarm was raised when the woman was seen outside a window, from which she reportedly fell to the ground below.
Emergency services arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead around 6:25 PM. Her body has since been transported to the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation, and authorities are working to gather more information regarding the incident.
