Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old girl on the #22 Bel Air Public Road at approximately 9:20 PM on July 8, 2025.

The accident involved motor car #PAF 2130, owned and driven by Paul Mahabal, a 32-year-old resident of Montrose, East Coast Demerara. The victim, Kimberley Jones, was crossing the road from north to south when she was struck by the car, which was traveling west along the southern side of the road.
Following the collision, Mahabal did not stop and continued driving west. Kimberley was found unconscious by bystanders who transported her to Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Mahaicony Police Station was notified, leading to the apprehension of Mahabal, who was stopped and arrested after police located the vehicle. He is currently in custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and details surrounding the circumstances of the accident.
