Police are investigating the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of 22-year-old fisherman Tamesh Takurdin from No. 65 Village. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when Tamesh and three other fishermen were aboard a fishing boat off the Corentyne coast around 4:10 PM.

Reports indicate that the boat capsized, causing Tamesh to fall overboard and disappear into the water. A search was launched immediately, but he could not be located at that time.
At approximately 5:45 PM, Tamesh’s body was recovered by local residents at the mouth of the No. 65 Channel. Witnesses reported froth coming from his nose and mouth. A preliminary examination of the body revealed no signs of violence, and it was subsequently taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead. The body is currently at the hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
In connection with the incident, the boat’s captain, Ramesh Chunilall, has been arrested and taken to the No. 51 Police Station, where he is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
