Big Smith News WATCH Reports | Police are awaiting post-mortem results regarding the death of a 39-year-old woman, Treena De Weever, also known as “Samantha,” whose body was discovered in a canal at North Ruimveldt on Sunday, January 18.

De Weever’s mother informed investigators that she had been a psychiatric patient. Residents of the community revealed that she was the mother of three children—two boys and a girl—and lived in a squatting area with her reputed husband.
A close friend remarked that she last saw De Weever around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, noting that she appeared depressed at the time. Community members indicated that De Weever frequently struggled with alcohol and, at times, lost her balance while crossing a bridge on her way home, leading to incidents where she fell into a trench and needed assistance.
Her body was found around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday in a canal near Lamaha Springs and Barbie Dam, a waterway reportedly connected to the trench she had crossed. Police reported that De Weever was lying face down with visible marks on her body.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to determine the cause of death, pending the results of the post-mortem examination.
