Political parties across Guyana are set to march to the Umana Yana on Monday, July 14, where they will submit their Lists of Candidates and nominators to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) in preparation for the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

During the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) campaign launch on Sunday, General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo revealed that over 25 candidates on the party’s list are under the age of 25. “Our list will look like Guyana; it will feel like Guyana,” he stated, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusivity and representation across various demographics.
Jagdeo noted the impressive turnout at the campaign launch in Kitty, calling it “the biggest ever.” He urged the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to make necessary arrangements for what he anticipates will be a large crowd on Nominations Day. “Tomorrow I expect to see many of you,” he said, encouraging supporters to participate in the event.
A total of 22 political parties are expected to submit their lists to compete in the upcoming elections scheduled for September 1, 2025. To successfully participate, each party must submit their symbol for approval along with their Lists of Candidates, which include:
One National Top-Up List: This must have at least 42 candidates and between 300 and 330 nominators from across the country. This list identifies the presidential candidate.
At least six Geographical Constituency Lists: Each of these lists must contain between 150 and 175 nominators from their respective geographical constituencies.
Regional Democratic Councils’ Lists: These lists are also required for participation.
With Nominations Day approaching, political parties are gearing up to finalize their submissions, marking a critical step in the electoral process leading to the upcoming elections.
