News Source Guyana Reports : Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), expressed his confidence in the party’s success in today’s elections, despite acknowledging some minor issues at polling stations.

After casting his vote in Sparendaam this afternoon, Jagdeo addressed reporters about the electoral process. He reported receiving information from party agents regarding several glitches, but he downplayed their significance, stating, “I do not want to elevate them to intractable problems.”
Jagdeo noted that while there were complaints about malfunctioning ballot stamps and slow voting at some locations, he believed that these issues were being promptly addressed by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM). “There are several reports that are not unusual on polling day,” he said, suggesting that other political parties were exaggerating minor issues.
He highlighted improvements in the electoral system compared to the 2020 General and Regional Elections, emphasizing a reduction in opportunities for confusion and manipulation. “We have less room now for capricious action on the part of any actor, whether they are party agents or GECOM,” he remarked. Jagdeo recalled the challenges faced during the previous elections, where changing instructions led to significant confusion.
As the day progressed, he indicated that feedback from party agents across the country reinforced his belief in the PPP’s chances for re-election.
