Jagdeo Criticizes Azruddin Mohamed’s Impact on WIN Candidates

  • News

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) and Vice President of Guyana, has highlighted that the sister and brother-in-law of US-sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed, Hana and Max Dmitriyev, have chosen not to associate themselves with the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party by withholding their names from its candidate list.

Jagdeo suggested that their decision to remain off the list is a protective measure against the repercussions of being linked to a sanctioned individual. He expressed concern for the unsuspecting Guyanese candidates who are now facing significant consequences, including the closure of their personal bank accounts by local commercial banks attempting to comply with international financial regulations.

“When they were supporting him, it was different. Now they’re part of a formal organization headed by a US-sanctioned individual, the banks have no choice whatsoever, or else they would lose their business with the US,” Jagdeo stated.

He lamented the plight of ordinary citizens who find themselves unable to conduct their business due to their association with WIN. “I feel sad for those people… they and their families would be in trouble, and he would laugh at the misery again,” he remarked.

Jagdeo pointed out that while the Dmitriyevs are active in media commentary, they have not relinquished their US citizenship nor placed their names on the candidate list, indicating a desire to avoid potential legal issues. He criticized Mohamed for prioritizing personal gain over the welfare of citizens, asserting that his motivations for running for office are selfish rather than focused on governance or community advancement.
