Jagdeo Criticizes Carter Center Report for Omissions

  • News

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the PPP/C, stated that the Carter Center’s pre-election report for Guyana’s September 1 polls confirmed the government’s view that the voters’ list is not “bloated” and that the campaign has been peaceful.

However, Jagdeo expressed disappointment over the report’s omission of key issues, including allegations of vote-buying and violence linked to opposition parties. He highlighted the incident involving Azruddin distributing money, which prompted GECOM to remind parties that vote-buying is illegal.

Jagdeo also pointed out the absence of major incidents, such as the “Doggie” Sampson assault. He criticized the report’s comments on U.S. sanctions against WIN party candidate Azruddin Mohamed as “strange,” asserting that the Carter Center should not suggest banks avoid “de-risking” their accounts.

Additionally, Jagdeo defended government project launches during the campaign, stating, “I make no apology. These inaugurations show we are delivering on promises.”
