Jagdeo Declares PPP/C Will Prevail Against All Opposition in Upcoming Elections

  • News

General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo addressed a large crowd of supporters on Sunday during the party’s campaign launch in Kitty. He expressed confidence that no matter how many political parties align against the PPP/C, his party will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections on September 1.

Jagdeo specifically targeted Azruddin Mohamed, the presidential candidate for the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, accusing him of attempting to evade legal troubles. “This guy is just trying to save his ass from jail. That’s all; he is no victim,” Jagdeo stated, dismissing the support Mohamed has garnered ahead of the elections.

Jagdeo urged supporters not to be misled by online activity, reminding them that social media engagement does not translate to actual votes. “What is important for election is getting people out to vote and getting the votes counted. Internet doesn’t vote… they have no policy… nothing to talk about,” he asserted. He emphasized that a decisive victory for the PPP/C depends on grassroots mobilization and community support.

Highlighting the successes of the PPP/C government since 2020, Jagdeo listed numerous accomplishments:

Healthcare: The government kept the country safe from COVID-19.

Employment: Over 60,000 people have been reintegrated into the workforce.

Education: Nearly 40,000 students are now studying at the tertiary level, with free university education and the return of child grants.

Public Services: The double increase in old-age pensions and the removal of over 200 taxes, which saved citizens approximately $50 billion.

Agriculture: Sugar workers rehired and billions allocated to farmers for production costs and disaster assistance.

Jagdeo reiterated that while the party has made significant strides, more work remains to be done. He encouraged citizens to support the PPP/C’s articulated plans for the country, warning against voting for those with criminal ties, which could jeopardize national development.

As the campaign intensifies, Jagdeo’s remarks set a resolute tone for the PPP/C’s approach leading up to the elections.
