The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is gearing up for its re-election campaign launch, with General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo asserting that the focus will be on “real plans and positivity,” rather than mere “optics politics.” He made this statement during his weekly press conference, where he refrained from discussing any potential surprise attendees at the campaign launch scheduled for Sunday at Kitty Market Square.

Dr. Jagdeo expressed confidence in the party’s appeal, stating, “If you come there, you will see happy people.” He emphasized that the event will not involve forced attendance, as the PPP aims to deliver a positive message that resonates with all Guyanese, regardless of race.
Leading up to the elections on September 1, 2025, Jagdeo noted an increase in community engagement, with more individuals approaching party officials to assist in setting up party materials and transporting items to remote regions. “In the past, we never had enough people in South Georgetown to put up our flags. Now, local groups and supporters are taking the initiative,” he explained.
He attributed this enthusiasm to the PPP’s contributions across various sectors and its inclusive campaign, which offers incentives for housewives, miners, rice farmers, public servants, and persons living with disabilities.
Jagdeo remarked, “We can talk about what we did, the positive things. There are lots to talk about.” In contrast, he criticized the opposition APNU’s campaign launch, noting that it attracted minimal support and lacked concrete plans, instead relying on blame and unfulfilled promises directed at the PPP.
