Jagdeo Urges Patience as PPP/C Projects Positive Election Outlook

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), encouraged citizens to remain patient as they await election results, asserting that the party has a favorable “macro picture” of the electoral outcome.

Speaking to reporters at the PPP’s Freedom House headquarters on Monday night, Jagdeo stated, “We have a macro picture, and as far as I see, it’s a good picture.” He assured the public that they would not have to wait long for the results, predicting that Statements of Poll (SOPs) would be uploaded by the following day, allowing every Guyanese to access the information.

Jagdeo indicated that the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) faced a disappointing performance, suggesting they would experience a “difficult” night. He urged supporters and the general public to be patient while awaiting the official declaration of results but expressed confidence in the PPP’s standing.

The information coming in from various regions, he claimed, aligns with the trends the PPP had anticipated, including the retention of its support while potentially losing some votes to the newly formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party. Jagdeo noted that WIN is likely to draw votes from the APNU as well.

“Their [APNU’s] miscalculation regarding WIN is evident. They believed that the new party would primarily weaken the PPP, leading to a minority government,” he explained. “Now it seems WIN will take support from APNU, and while it might take small numbers from the PPP, the impact on APNU will be more significant.”

Echoing the sentiments of officials from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Jagdeo urged the public to await the official results declared by the electoral body, reinforcing the importance of relying on verified information.
