Jagdeo: Wealth Creation Essential Before Distribution

News

Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo stressed the importance of creating wealth before distributing it, asserting that oil alone is not a sustainable foundation for Guyana’s future. Speaking on the “Starting Point” podcast, he emphasized the need for a stable macroeconomic environment, recalling how the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) managed the economy responsibly since resuming office in 1992.

Jagdeo highlighted the significant reduction of the national debt and the investments made in essential services like education and infrastructure during his tenure. He criticized the opposition for making unrealistic spending promises without a plan for wealth creation, urging voters to think critically about these claims.

He reiterated that the PPP/C carefully calculates its promises and has a track record of delivering on them, unlike the PNC/APNU coalition, which he accused of failing to manage the economy effectively. Jagdeo emphasized the PPP/C’s focus on establishing a development bank to support small businesses and promote sector-wide growth, asserting that planning must extend beyond oil revenue.
