President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Dr. Irfaan Ali, awarded the Joint Services Medal to several officers and ranks for their outstanding service during ‘Operation Plexus,’ a national security operation conducted around the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, recognized the dedication of men and women who maintained security at polling stations and patrolled communities from August 20 to September 8, 2025.
“Elections are the lifeblood of democracy. Because of your vigilance, passion did not become provocation, and decisions did not descend into disorder,” President Ali stated, expressing gratitude for their efforts.
He emphasized that the medals symbolize the nation’s appreciation for the bravery and commitment shown by the ranks, who contributed to maintaining peace and stability during the electoral process.
Brigadier Omar Khan, Chief of Defence Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, commended the joint services for their efficiency, particularly noting their response to an attempted attack on democracy while escorting Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) officials on the Cuyuni River. He expressed confidence in their ability to continue providing the security that the people of Guyana deserve.
The operation concluded with an After Action Review to consolidate lessons learned and enhance future operational effectiveness.
