Jomel Kenny Remanded Following Fatal Accident on BJDR Bridge

News

Jomel Kenny, 23, has been remanded to prison after being charged with driving without a license, breach of insurance, and faulty packing of the load. His appearance at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court came a day after a fatal multi-vehicular accident on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge that resulted in the death of Scott Dorwart, 24, a taxi driver from Grove, East Bank Demerara. Several others were injured in the incident.

The owner of the involved truck, Antonio Johnson, 55, from Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, also faced charges on Friday. He was charged with breach of insurance and permitting an unlicensed driver to operate the vehicle.

Both Kenny and Johnson pleaded not guilty to their respective charges. Kenny was remanded to prison, while Johnson was granted bail set at $50,000.

In a release issued by Police Headquarters on Friday, it was revealed that Kenny, the driver of the motor lorry involved in the accident, was unable to produce the necessary documents for the vehicle. Additionally, his driver’s license does not carry the category required to operate a motor lorry.

The investigation into the accident continues as police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
