Just two days into his new position, Keoma Griffith, Guyana’s newly appointed Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, expresses his gratitude and excitement. At 32, he is the youngest member of the Cabinet, a surprise pick as he wasn’t listed as a candidate in the recent elections.

“I was not on the list of nominees, so it was unexpected. But I am extremely grateful to serve,” he shared in an exclusive interview.
Griffith emphasizes the government’s commitment to youth, stating, “This is a promise delivered. Youth is an asset, and I intend to bring vibrance to the Ministry.” He will lean on the experience of former Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton and other senior Cabinet colleagues.
The Ministry’s name change signals a broader focus, aimed at preparing the workforce for economic transformation. Griffith plans to strengthen vocational and technical training, especially in hinterland regions, ensuring all Guyanese can access growth opportunities.
On foreign workers, he stressed that local employment and workplace conditions will remain a priority. “We welcome investment, but our people must benefit,” he affirmed.
Griffith also aims to update labour laws to ensure protections align with national development. Describing himself as “a son, a servant, and a youth leader,” he is committed to making the Ministry more visible and engaging directly with the public.
As he embarks on this journey, Griffith is aware of the challenges ahead, particularly proving that his youth is an asset. With the President emphasizing accountability, all eyes are on him to deliver results in this crucial role.
