Kwakwani Secondary School Destroyed by Fire of Unknown Origin

  • News

A fire of unknown origin has completely destroyed the Kwakwani Secondary School, located in Pathville, at approximately 3:40 AM on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blaze. The school, a one-storey concrete structure measuring about 30 feet in width and 100 feet in length, was reported to be fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency services arrived on the scene.

A Corporal stationed at the Mackenzie Police Station was attending the annual fair at the Kwakwani Ballfield when he noticed a large fire emanating from the Pathville area. He promptly alerted the Kwakwani Police Station about the situation.

In response to the report, a Police Sergeant and two other officers rushed to the scene, where they found the Kwakwani Secondary School ablaze. The auxiliary staff was summoned, and a fire response team led by Julian Martin, assisted by Jishan Martin, quickly took action to extinguish the flames. However, by that time, the school had already suffered complete destruction.

The Kwakwani Secondary School was powered by electricity from the Kwakwani Utility Inc., which reportedly experienced constant power outages during the night.

At the time of the fire, the school was protected by Homesafe Security Service, with a guard on duty. When questioned, the guard stated that he was conducting checks around the compound when he noticed smoke coming from the headmistress’s office, located on the southwestern side of the building. He immediately contacted his supervisor, Ms. Elizabeth Samuels, to report the situation.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to this devastating incident.
