La Jalousie Man Busted with 30 Grams of Cannabis During Traffic Stop

Sayeed Salul, a 35-year-old resident of Gap Road, La Jalousie, was apprehended by police on Wednesday after being found in possession of 30 grams of suspected cannabis during a routine traffic stop at Den Amstel.

At approximately 12:45 PM, police ranks, led by an inspector, were conducting a traffic exercise in front of the Den Amstel Police Station. They stopped a Toyota Fielder Wagon driven by a 34-year-old man from Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, with Salul as the lone passenger.

Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, prompting them to ask both occupants to exit while conducting searches. Salul was found with a bulky plastic bag containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Following the initial discovery, police conducted a search of Salul’s home in La Jalousie, where they uncovered several small ziplock bags of suspected cannabis concealed in a chest of drawers. When informed of his offense, Salul reportedly stated, “Sir, I does hustle da lil weed.”

Salul was then taken to the Leonora Police Station along with the seized cannabis. Weighing at the station confirmed that the cannabis found on his person totaled 30 grams, while the amount discovered at his home was 482 grams.

He has been placed into custody pending charges, and further investigations are ongoing.
