Keion Clarke, a 24-year-old laborer from Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice, is confronting serious legal repercussions after pleading guilty to multiple traffic-related offences. In a hearing on Thursday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, Magistrate Michelle Matthias remanded him to prison, denying bail.

Clarke admitted to several charges, including:

Driving without a license

Two counts of dangerous driving

Failing to display identification marks on both the front and rear of his vehicle

Breaching insurance requirements

Driving without a safety helmet

Operating an uncertified motor vehicle

Failing to stop when required by a uniformed police officer

Fraudulent use of imitation identification marks

The court was informed that Clarke was arrested following the circulation of a video on social media, which allegedly showed him assaulting a traffic officer while the officer was on duty. In the footage, he is seen approaching the officer wielding a glass bottle, striking him, and then throwing the bottle in the officer’s direction.

The prosecution objected to bail based on the severity of the offences and the nature of the incident. After considering the arguments, Magistrate Matthias decided to remand Clarke to prison. He is set to return to court on March 5, 2026, for further proceedings.
