Labourer Remanded for Larceny

A 26-year-old labourer, Shawn Dover, has been remanded to prison following his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a larceny charge. Dover, a resident of Leopold Street, Werk-En-Rust, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge read by Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty.

The charge alleges that on July 3, 2025, on Brickdam, Georgetown, Dover stole a purse from Chandralaka Chunilall. The purse contained a Republic Bank card, a national identification card, a Samsung S24 Ultra phone valued at $250,000, and cash amounting to $48,790, for a total value of $298,790.

The prosecution objected to bail, citing the serious nature of the offence and the significant value of the stolen items. In his defense, Dover claimed he was unaware of any bag, stating, “I was crossing the road when a police van drove into me and accused me of stealing a bag. I didn’t even know about no bag.”

Magistrate McGusty denied bail and adjourned the matter to August 8, 2025, for further proceedings.
