A 30-year-old labourer from Charity Riverdam, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), has been remanded on a cocaine trafficking charge. Munesh Samaroo appeared last week at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, specifically nine grams of cocaine.

According to reports, Samaroo was found in possession of the illegal substance on the evening of February 9, while at the Xenon night club in Charity. Law enforcement officials on mobile patrol observed him standing outside the club and acting in a suspicious manner. Subsequently, they conducted a search, during which the drugs were discovered.
During the court proceedings before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, Samaroo pleaded guilty with an explanation. However, based on that explanation, the magistrate chose to enter a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The prosecutor objected to bail, and as a result, Samaroo was remanded to prison. He is scheduled to return to court on March 16 for disclosures.
