Legal Action Threatened Against Ameir Ahmad by Minister Susan Rodrigues

  • News

Guyana Standard Reports : Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, has announced potential legal action against Ameir Ahmad for alleged defamation related to statements published on the “Melly Mel” Facebook page. This follows a formal letter from Rodrigues’ attorney, Ganesh Arvindra Hira of Hira Legal, dated August 9, 2025.

The letter claims that Ahmad made statements implicating Rodrigues in illegal and improper land transactions. These remarks were reportedly part of an audio recording of conversations between Ahmad and Melissa Atwell, the operator of the Facebook page.

Hira’s letter asserts that the allegations made by Ahmad are “utterly false and without merit.” It also accuses him of attempting to “put pressure” on Rodrigues, a public official, through alleged blackmail and extortion.

The letter demands a clear and unconditional apology and retraction to be approved by Rodrigues by Monday, August 11, 2025, at 12 noon. Hira also indicated that Rodrigues is entitled to substantial compensation and reasonable legal costs, requesting Ahmad to propose terms for damages and costs.

Hira warned that failure to respond satisfactorily by the deadline will result in legal proceedings against Ahmad personally, with Rodrigues reserving all her rights.
