Amar Jones, a 27-year-old businessman, was tragically gunned down in broad daylight on Tuesday while waiting to pick up his 5-year-old daughter along the Half Mile Public Road.

According to a police report, the shooting occurred around 15:00 hours as Jones sat in a motor canter, where he worked with his family’s tow truck and machinery business.
A close relative spoke to the News Room, describing Amar as a devoted father and a friendly community member who had recently celebrated his birthday on December 14. The relative highlighted Amar’s dedication to his daughter, stating, “You ask the community, you ask the region, you ask the police, you would never hear [Amar] in a problem.”
Just ten minutes before the tragedy unfolded, Amar expressed to his relative that he was waiting for his daughter to arrive. “The last thing [Amar] told me was that he was waiting on his daughter who was coming in a car. I drove off and went home. Ten minutes later, I got a call that [Amar] was dead,” the relative recounted with sorrow.
At the time of the incident, Amar was accompanied by a friend, having asked the friend to collect his daughter from another vehicle just moments before the gunman opened fire. The relative described Amar’s nurturing nature, noting how he would braid his daughter’s hair and ensure she was well-cared-for, a sentiment echoed by her teachers.
Investigations revealed that an unidentified man discharged multiple rounds towards Jones before fleeing the scene. Authorities have since arrested a 24-year-old woman from Amelia’s Ward, Linden, who is currently in custody assisting with the investigation. Additionally, a motor vehicle has been seized and is undergoing processing as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Community members are left in shock, mourning the loss of a man described as both loving and hardworking, while police continue their quest for justice in this tragic case.
