Husband-and-wife duo Lokoya and Curtly Critchlow have combined their expertise to create Lokademy, an innovative AI-powered study app designed to support students preparing for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) exams.
In an interview with the News Room, Lokoya shared her vision for making educational resources accessible to every student, regardless of their location. “I was inspired to find a way for every student, whether in Guyana or beyond, to access extra support,” she stated. With Curtly’s background in technology and Lokoya’s extensive experience as an educator, their partnership has led to the development of a 24/7 AI Chatbot to assist students with their studies.
Lokademy offers interactive courses in Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science, and Physics, aligned with CSEC syllabi to ensure consistency with what students learn in school. “Unlike traditional lessons that last an hour or two, Lokademy provides continuous support,” Lokoya explained. “Students can ask questions, practice, and master topics at their own pace.”
Curtly, who transitioned from a biology graduate to a software developer, emphasized the app’s capabilities. “Once I saw how programming could simplify complex tasks, I was hooked,” he said. He has utilized his technical skills to ensure that the chatbot responds accurately and contextually to questions based on the CSEC curriculum.
Available on both Google Play and the App Store, Lokademy allows users to create a free account to access a CSEC Success Toolkit, with premium courses offered at US$25 or G$5,000 per month. The Critchlows are excited to showcase Lokademy at GuyExpo, marking the platform’s first public display. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to introduce this homegrown educational technology to Guyana,” Curtly noted.
In addition to aiding students, Lokademy offers an affiliate program for teachers, enabling them to earn commissions for each student referred, as well as custom AI learning systems for businesses to enhance onboarding and training processes.
