A fatal collision on Greenwich Park Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, has resulted in a fine for one of the drivers involved.
The crash involved motor lorries GAB 5416 and GAF 6756, driven respectively by Sunil Singh and Zaheer Barclay, and motorcar PXX 9053 driven by Deryck Singh, who died in the accident.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, at about 09:30 hrs, Sunil Singh, driver of motor lorry GAB 5416, was charged with driving a motor vehicle while his breath-alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, contrary to Section 39A(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02. He appeared before Her Worship Magistrate Alicia George at Leonora Magistrates’ Court #2, where the charge was read and he pleaded guilty.
Magistrate George fined Singh GYD $130,000. The circumstances surrounding the collision, including details of any ongoing investigations or charges relating to the fatality, were not disclosed in court on Monday. Further inquiries by authorities into the crash and the death of Deryck Singh are expected.
