The US$35 million Mackenzie-Wismar bridge in Region 10 is on track for completion, with full operations expected by June following the connection of the roads leading to it. This update was confirmed by Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill during a recent site inspection.

The 220-meter-long precast bridge is being constructed by China Railway Construction (Caribbean) Co Ltd and is currently 93.2% complete. Minister Edghill expressed confidence in meeting the construction deadline, stating, “The construction of the bridge will be completed on time, with all resources mobilized day and night to get the approach roads ready.”
While the push to expedite construction is evident, the minister emphasized that quality and safety are essential. “We must avoid jeopardizing safety,” he said.
The approach roads connected to the bridge will span four lanes and include features such as geo-carriageway, medians, and traffic islands. The design also incorporates roundabouts on both sides, linking the bridge to the Linden–Mabura Road and the broader highway network.
Minister Edghill highlighted the importance of ensuring seamless connectivity for major infrastructure projects in Region 10. “We want everything to be connected in a respectable manner for a good drive, easy access, and safety,” he noted.
The completion of the Mackenzie-Wismar bridge is expected to significantly enhance transportation and accessibility in the region, contributing to infrastructure development and economic growth.
