A 48-year-old man, identified as Neil Medas, also known as ‘Shoulders,’ is in custody following his confession to breaking into the Ministry of Home Affairs early Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 04:44 hrs when Medas, who lacks a fixed residence, was arrested on Charlotte Street. Reports indicate that he was questioned by police and subsequently admitted to the crime.

Initial investigations revealed that Medas allegedly stole several items from the Ministry, including two HP laptop computers, an Apple iPad, an Amazon tablet, and two Canon EOS 4000D cameras. Additionally, a gold chain valued at $300,000 and $36,000 in cash belonging to a 58-year-old administrator from the Ministry’s Personnel Department were reportedly taken.

The stolen items—along with beverages, toiletries, clothing, and a knife—were recovered in Medas’s possession.

The break-in was discovered after an on-duty officer noticed a suspicious individual on the CCTV monitor. While stationed in the south-western guard hut, she observed a male wearing a hoodie inside the Immigration Support Services Department, carrying a haversack. The officer promptly alerted her colleagues and raised the alarm.

The officers then used a key from the guard hut to enter the building through the southern door but were unable to locate the intruder at that time. The incident was subsequently reported to the Brickdam Police Station, and police later discovered that the Personnel Office on the middle flat had been ransacked. Investigations are ongoing.
