The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) has reported two significant drug enforcement actions this week, including an airport interception and a sentencing stemming from a months-long investigation on the Corentyne.

Ogle Airport Interception
A man was arrested last Thursday after CANU officers intercepted a parcel of cannabis at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle, acting on information received.
The parcel, which was destined for Kamarang, Region Seven, was found to contain several bulky packages of cannabis weighing a combined 1.08 kilograms — approximately 2.38 pounds.
The suspect, Moses Ally, was escorted to CANU headquarters along with the seized narcotics. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Corentyne Drug Trafficker Sentenced
In a separate matter, Rajesh Mookram has been sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $27 million after being found guilty of illegal possession of narcotics.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, April 2, following a case that originated from a CANU operation in November 2025.
According to CANU, Mookram was intercepted by officers while riding a motorcycle at Sandaka Creek, Corentyne, Berbice. During the operation, he led officers to a location where a search uncovered two bulky salt bags containing 30 kilograms of cannabis.
