i News Guyana Reports : Keron Mervin Daniels, a 32-year-old businessman from Uitvlugt Pasture, was granted bail of $500,000 on Wednesday after being remanded for an acid attack on two women in East Street, Georgetown.

Daniels appeared virtually before Chief Magistrate (acting) Faith McGusty, facing two counts of throwing a corrosive substance with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Prosecutors opposed bail, citing the serious nature of the offense, which they linked to a personal dispute. They claimed to possess CCTV footage connecting Daniels to the crime scene.
However, defense attorneys Ronald Bostwick and Ronald Daniels argued that their client, a father of four, has no prior convictions and poses no threat to society. They proposed strict bail conditions, including lodging his passport and signing a recognizance.
Initially remanded until September 17 for the prosecution to present the video footage, the court was informed that the CCTV recording was not available in time for the hearing. Consequently, Magistrate McGusty granted bail to Daniels, who is scheduled to return to court on October 22, 2025.
The charges against him stem from an incident where cashier Jillicia Leitch suffered severe burns, while Nirmala Sukraj sustained minor injuries. The attack occurred around 3:30 PM after the women left Balwant Singh Hospital to buy food. A white motorcar reportedly pulled up, and a passenger threw a glass bottle filled with a corrosive liquid at them before fleeing.
Leitch has been left visually impaired and requires surgery, while Sukraj was treated and discharged later that evening.
