Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault of Nine-Year-Old Girl in Berbice

In a distressing case, D’Andre Perry has pleaded guilty to charges related to the sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl. Perry appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Berbice High Court on Tuesday, admitting to the offense that occurred on October 19, 2024.

The court heard from the prosecution that the young girl was on her way to visit her grandfather when Perry approached her and subsequently assaulted her. Upon realizing the gravity of the situation, the girl screamed for help, prompting Perry to flee the scene.

In her shaken state, the girl managed to reach a relative’s home, where she disclosed the horrific incident. She was promptly taken to the hospital, where medical professionals treated her for significant injuries, and she underwent surgery due to the trauma inflicted. Reports indicated that she lost approximately one liter of blood as a result of the assault.

Following the prosecution’s presentation, Justice Kissoon ordered the preparation of a probation report in anticipation of the sentencing phase. State Prosecutor Cecil Corbin also indicated that an impact statement would be submitted, detailing the crime’s effects on the victim and her family.

Perry has been remanded to prison pending further court proceedings. He is scheduled to return to court on January 6, 2026, at which point the specifics of his sentencing will be determined. The case highlights the urgent need for ongoing support for survivors of such heinous acts and underscores the importance of justice in cases of sexual violence against minors.
