Nicholas Johnson, known as ‘Suga,’ a 25-year-old heavy-duty machine operator, has been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of 31-year-old Colene Toney. The incident occurred on February 20, 2024, in Number 53 Village, Corentyne.

Johnson appeared before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy at the Springlands Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge. Following the attack, Johnson fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Toney was found lying on the ground with severe injuries and was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Seventeen months after the incident, Johnson surrendered to the Springlands Police Station with an attorney, marking the end of his time in hiding. He is represented by attorneys Chandra Sohan and Adrian Annamyaha.
The case has been transferred to the Number 51 Magistrates’ Court, with the next hearing set for August 27, 2025.
While in custody, police informed Johnson that he had been sentenced to 51 months in prison for felonious wounding of Andrea Greaves, a sentence issued in his absence by Magistrate Robindranauth Singh. Johnson is also facing additional charges, including rape, reckless driving, and multiple counts of assault, following commitments by Magistrate Renita Singh to stand trial in the High Court.
