Man Shot Outside Mother’s Shop in Sophia

News

A 30-year-old mason, Akeem Braithwaite, is currently recovering in the hospital after being shot by a gunman on Tuesday night along the B Field Access Road. The incident occurred around 9:00 PM on December 16, 2025, while Braithwaite was waiting to assist his mother, Mary Braithwaite, in closing her shop located at their family residence.

Police investigations indicate that Braithwaite was seated on the northern side of the access road when he was approached by an unidentified man, known only as Emanuel. Armed with a handgun, the suspect discharged three shots at Braithwaite before fleeing on foot in the same direction from which he came.

Braithwaite was struck by two bullets: one in his upper left arm and another in his waist. Despite the injuries, his mother quickly transported him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Subsequent to the shooting, police visited the scene to process it, recovering three .22 caliber spent shells, which have been marked, sealed, and lodged as evidence. Investigators have also questioned several people in the vicinity and identified private CCTV cameras that will be reviewed as part of their ongoing investigation.

Authorities are actively searching for the suspect and continuing to explore the motive behind the attack. Anyone with information that could assist in locating the gunman is urged to contact the nearest police station.
