Miner Arrested at Itabali Police Check Point with 68.6 Grams of Marijuana

Gladston Burnett, a 32-year-old miner from Sophia, was arrested around 11:00 AM today, September 4, 2025, at the Itabali Check Point after police discovered he was in possession of 68.6 grams of marijuana.

Burnett was traveling in a motor vehicle (HD 7727) that was en route to Puruni Landing when police officers at the checkpoint conducted a routine search of the car and its occupants, which included three passengers.

During the search, Burnett exhibited nervous behavior, prompting the officers to investigate further. They uncovered the marijuana concealed in a black plastic bag hidden within a pack of oats that he was carrying.

Upon questioning, Burnett admitted to ownership of the narcotics, stating, “Officer, is me smoking weed I walking with, I don’t sell.” He was subsequently informed of the offense and taken into custody.

The police continue to emphasize their commitment to maintaining public safety and addressing illegal drug possession in the region. Further investigations are ongoing.
