Miner Fatally Attacked in Mahdia During Attempted Robbery

Junior Williams, a 36-year-old miner from Pamela Road, Mahdia, was fatally chopped during an attack early Saturday morning at 14 Miles Issano Landing, located on the Middle Mazaruni River.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 5:00 AM while Williams was socializing and consuming alcohol at the landing. He was confronted by two men in what appeared to be an attempted robbery.

Initially, Williams, armed with a knife, managed to fend off the attackers. However, the situation escalated when the suspects returned moments later armed with a cutlass, inflicting several severe chop wounds before fleeing the scene.

A nearby resident, alerted by the commotion, discovered Williams lying on the ground and immediately sought assistance from other locals. He was transported to the Mahdia District Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

An examination of Williams’ body revealed two significant wounds: one to his right hand and another between his right index finger and thumb.

Police have confirmed that one suspect is in custody and is currently assisting with the investigation. Authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident as the community mourns the loss of a local miner.
