Minister Croal Vows to Combat Corruption in Housing Sector

News

Minister of Housing Collin Croal has affirmed that corruption within the housing sector will not be tolerated, as the Ministry intensifies collaboration with law enforcement to address fraud and hold offenders accountable.

In a recent appearance on the Starting Point programme, Croal disclosed that the Ministry of Housing and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) are actively working with the Guyana Police Force to investigate an increasing number of corruption-related complaints. “We do have complaints sometimes, and they are investigated so we can move forward,” he stated, noting that several cases have already progressed to the courts. “In recent times, we have been successful in cooperating in terms of investigations to have persons prosecuted.”

Croal emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to eliminating any attempts at fraud. “We want to eliminate any attempts by anybody trying to defraud in any shape or form,” he stressed.

However, he acknowledged that some investigations face delays due to victims not providing formal statements. “Yes, somebody files a complaint…but then we need the statement, and they don’t want to go onwards,” he explained.

Despite these challenges, Croal assured the public that the Ministry remains vigilant. “Once any attempt is found, we move it to the next stage. We are mindful of corruption, and we are taking all complaints seriously,” he affirmed.

He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to housing allocations to help combat corruption effectively.
