Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha recently engaged with a delegation from Blumberg Grain, a U.S.-based company that is collaborating with the Government of Guyana on the construction of the Regional Food Hub at Yarrowkabra along the Linden–Soesdyke Highway.

The delegation was led by the company’s Chairman, Philip Blumberg. During the meeting, discussions centered on the progress of this significant agricultural project, with officials reporting that construction of the facility is approximately 60 percent complete.
In addition to the current project’s status, the meeting explored further investment opportunities as Guyana seeks to expand its agricultural sector. Particular focus was given to Region Five, where potential initiatives could enhance agricultural production and agro-processing activities.
The Regional Food Hub is a cornerstone of the Government’s strategy to bolster food production, storage, processing, and distribution systems in Guyana, thereby positioning the country as a vital supplier of agricultural products to the Caribbean.
Once completed, the facility is expected to facilitate the aggregation and value-added processing of agricultural commodities, enhance logistics and export capacity, and play a crucial role in regional food security efforts. The hub aligns with ongoing Caribbean initiatives aimed at reducing the region’s food import bill.
