Today, officers from the Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department conducted crucial workplace inspections and accident investigations at two major facilities: Pritipaul Singh Investments Inc. and the National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO).

The inspection team, comprising OSH Officers Mr. Ray Hosannah and Ms. Delcina Small, along with University of Guyana student interns Ms. Michelle Hercules and Ms. Susana Benjamin-Reece, assessed various workplace conditions to ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Chapter 99:06.
Key focus areas included the presence of hygienic restroom facilities, the implementation of occupational health and safety systems, and the general well-being of employees on site.
Following the evaluations, the team conducted a safety talk for employees who had previously been involved in a non-fatal workplace accident. The session emphasized critical aspects of Occupational Safety and Health, including the identification of workplace hazards, accident prevention strategies, proper reporting procedures, and fall protection measures.
A list of recommendations was issued to the management of both facilities to enhance OSH compliance and workplace safety standards. The companies have been given a one-month period to rectify all breaches identified during the inspections.
The Ministry of Labour, through its OSH Department, is committed to fostering a culture of safety in workplaces across Guyana. To this end, it will continue to engage the business community through safety talks, brochures, sensitization sessions, and other outreach initiatives to promote compliance and safeguard the health and well-being of workers nationwide.
