The Ministry of Natural Resources has announced significant progress in its ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal mining operations across Guyana, with more than 50 pieces of mining equipment and related materials recently seized from unlicensed operations in the North West District.

These seizures occurred during compliance and enforcement exercises conducted in collaboration with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) at various locations within the Eclipse Falls–North West area. Among the confiscated items were mining engines, generators, water pumps, hoses, and gold detection equipment, all found to be in violation of the country’s mining laws and regulations. The seized equipment has been detained and secured at the Mines Station pending further action.
The Ministry underscores that illegal and unregulated mining presents serious environmental, economic, and safety risks, which will not be tolerated. These enforcement activities are part of a larger, sustained strategy to ensure adherence to the Mining Act and to safeguard Guyana’s natural resources for both current and future generations.
The ministry has committed to continuing these operations nationwide, with plans to publicly disclose all findings and violations identified during enforcement activities, in line with the government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
Additionally, the Ministry of Natural Resources urges all miners and operators to ensure that their activities are fully licensed and compliant with national regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to a sustainable mining industry.
