A 35-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Sunday evening following a collision at the junction of the Mandela to Eccles Highway and Rome Access Road.

Dead is Andra Jnr Lewis, of Guyhoc Park, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
According to initial police enquiries, the accident occurred around 18:16 hours and involved motorcycle CR 5455, ridden by Lewis, and motor lorry GAM 1442, driven by a 24-year-old man from D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice.
CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE ACCIDENT
Investigators said the motorcyclist was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane of the Mandela to Eccles Highway, while the lorry was travelling east along the northern drive lane of Rome Access Road. At the intersection, the driver of the lorry allegedly drove into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in a collision between the front of the bike and the left rear side of the truck.
Lewis sustained severe injuries in the crash. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned, and a doctor on duty later pronounced him dead at the scene.
INVESTIGATION AND CUSTODY
His body has since been taken to the Davis Memorial Crematorium and Funeral Home mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police said a breathalyzer test conducted on the lorry driver showed no trace of alcohol. The 24-year-old driver remains in custody assisting with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
