News

In a Social Media Post Via the Team Mohameds Facebook Page they Released a Press Statement Highlighting : Opposition Leader Mohamed visited the Amerindian Hostel on Princess Street this morning at the invitation of the occupants to provide representation but was denied entry. Reports have surfaced indicating that the hostel is in a shocking state, with numerous concerns raised about the living conditions.

Credible information suggests that the hostel is unkempt and poorly maintained. Eyewitness accounts describe a troubling scene, including a paralyzed bedridden man, an amputee, and another individual who has suffered a stroke, all confined to an untidy room.

While the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs is reportedly painting the exterior of the building, conditions inside remain appalling. Behind a fresh coat of paint lies a rundown dwelling for the indigenous residents. The key concerns include:

Excessive Heat: The hostel lacks adequate ventilation, with a need for fans and air conditioning.

Health Risks: Occupants are reportedly leaving in worse health, as beds are cramped, the mattresses are thin, and residents have complained of scabies after spending the night.

Washroom Facilities: Many toilets are out of order, forcing residents to fetch buckets of water for flushing. Additionally, cleaning supplies are lacking.

Subpar Nutrition: The food provided is often inadequate, featuring minimal meat options, with meals frequently consisting of only sausages and sardines, and limited to two slices of bread.

Water Drought: There is unstable water pressure, impacting daily living activities.

Pest Infestation: Reports indicate that the hostel is infested with rats, raising hygiene concerns.

WIN is urgently calling on the Minister of Amerindian Affairs to address these pressing issues immediately to ensure that the dignity and welfare of the indigenous residents are restored. The treatment of individuals in such vulnerable situations warrants swift and effective intervention.
