Narcotic Charges: One Sentenced, Two Remanded

Three individuals, including a woman, appeared in the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on August 15, 2025, facing cocaine trafficking charges. The accused are Joel Leander, Satrohan Hardowar, and Lorna Scott-Williams.

Leander admitted to possessing 5.442 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to five years in prison, along with a fine of GY $8,163,000.

Both Hardowar and Scott-Williams pleaded not guilty and have been remanded to prison pending trial. Scott-Williams faces an additional charge for possessing 3.592 kilograms of cocaine for trafficking, which she also denied.

Scott-Williams has a prior criminal history; in 2015, she and her husband were charged with trafficking cocaine and cannabis, and they were convicted in 2017.
