Narcotics Found at Itaballi Police Checkpoint

On August 14, 2025, an Inspector and a Corporal on duty at the Itaballi checkpoint intercepted a vehicle with registration GAL 686, driven by Reon Bonus. The vehicle was traveling from Madhia in Region 8 to Arimu Backdam, carrying the driver and three passengers.

During the routine check, the occupants were asked for identification, and their names were recorded. The Corporal then conducted a search of the vehicle’s cabin in the presence of the driver and passengers. A black bag containing two transparent ziplock bags was discovered, holding a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

One of the occupants, Jaheem Bonus, claimed ownership of the contents, stating he had collected it at Itaballi Landing to transport to Arimu Backdam. He was informed of the offense, cautioned, and subsequently arrested. The narcotics were weighed in his presence, totaling 143.6 grams.

Jaheem, along with Reon Bonus, a 42-year-old mechanic, Hosea Issaccs, a 27-year-old operator, and Albert Daniels, a 26-year-old operator, were escorted to the Bartica Police Station. There, a video and audio interview was conducted with Jaheem, who confirmed his ownership of the narcotics.

Statements were taken from all occupants, and Jaheem was placed into custody pending charges.
