  • News

The North Pakaraimas District Council has expressed its deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and community of Mamai Lucille Williams of Karisparu, who recently passed away.

Affectionately known as Mamai, Williams was a revered figure in her community, embodying courage, resilience, and dignity. Throughout her life, she stood firmly against the illegal occupation of Indigenous lands by miners, enduring the painful loss of her home and displacement just a few years ago.

Her commitment to defending the rights of the Patamuna people reflected the unyielding spirit of those who refuse to be silenced in the fight for their ancestral lands and way of life. The Council noted that her passing leaves a profound void, yet her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

In their statement, the Council honored Mamai for the sacrifices she made and the truth she championed. They extended their hopes for her soul to find eternal rest and offered peace and strength to her family and loved ones during this difficult time of mourning.
