Norton Proposes APNU Plans to Address GPL Power Supply Issues

  • News

Aubrey Norton, the Presidential Candidate for APNU, outlined his party’s strategy to resolve Guyana’s power generation problems and eliminate outages. In a recent interview, he criticized the government’s reliance on rented power ships, suggesting it reflects corruption and a lack of ownership.

Norton emphasized the need for effective management at the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) company, stating that the current government hires politically connected individuals rather than skilled professionals. He argued that under the APNU+AFC government from 2015-2020, improvements were made through a plan to enhance power generation and distribution.

He also pointed to delays in the gas-to-energy project, which was initially planned to reduce electricity costs by 50%. Norton claimed that these delays are increasing costs for consumers.

To further address the issue, the APNU plans to introduce a $10,000 electricity subsidy per household and enhance the Public Utilities Commission to ensure better functioning of the power company.
