The Honourable Oneidge Walrond officially took the helm of the Ministry of Home Affairs today, following a formal handover from former Minister Robeson Benn. The transition, marked by a symbolic passing of the baton, signifies a new chapter in the ministry’s leadership.

In a ceremony held this morning, Benn, who served as the Senior Advisor in Home Affairs and Natural Resources, handed over his responsibilities to Walrond. The occasion was attended by Permanent Secretary Andre Ally and heads of various departments under the ministry, including the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service.
As Walrond assumed her new role, she expressed her commitment to overseeing the ministry and its constituent agencies, which also include the Guyana Fire Service, the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit, the General Register Office, the Juvenile Justice Department, the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory, the National Community Policing of Guyana, and Immigration Support Services.
The ceremony was enhanced by the musical talents of the Guyana Police Force Band, which performed stirring renditions of “My Guyana (My Guyana Eldorado)” by F.P. Loncke and “I Am a Guyanese” by Adrian Dutchin, adding a touch of patriotic pride to the proceedings.
With this leadership change, the ministry is poised to tackle ongoing challenges and continue its mission to enhance safety and security in Guyana.
