News Source Guyana Reported : Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed and two of his workers, Mario Mohammed and Eugene Thorne, are expected to appear in court tomorrow after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised that the trio be jointly charged over a Monday night incident outside the residence of Special Branch Head, Senior Superintendent of Police Prem Narine.

The DPP’s advice, which was formally communicated to the Guyana Police Force this evening, recommends that the three men be jointly charged with:
- Unlawful possession of a firearm without a license
- Unlawful possession of ammunition without a license
- Attempt to obstruct the course of justice
Notably, while police originally arrested the men on suspicion of unlawful possession and unlawful discharge of a firearm, the DPP did not recommend any charges related to the discharge of a weapon.
Monday Night Interception
Mohamed and his two associates have been in police custody since their arrest late Monday night. According to statements made by Mohamed through his attorney, the men were traveling in a black Toyota motor car passing the Special Branch Head’s home to document what Mohamed described as an excessive presence of police officers stationed outside, which he alleged was an abuse of state resources.
Police reports state that Senior Superintendent Narine reported hearing a sound resembling a gunshot, prompting him to open fire on the vehicle. The car was subsequently intercepted by law enforcement, and the three occupants were taken into custody. Photos and observations of the vehicle show multiple bullet holes.
Allegations Denied; Claims of Evidence Planted
Through his legal counsel, Mohamed has strongly denied all allegations. He maintained that no one inside the vehicle fired any weapon during the incident. Furthermore, the Opposition Leader claimed that the firearm police reported finding inside the vehicle was planted by law enforcement officers.
Conflict of Interest Raised
The incident comes at a critical juncture, as Mohamed is currently before the court alongside his father in an ongoing extradition hearing. Senior Superintendent Prem Narine serves as the key prosecution witness in those extradition proceedings, raising intense public interest and scrutiny surrounding Monday night’s confrontation.
The three accused are scheduled to be formally read the charges when they appear before a magistrate tomorrow.
