In a pointed message shared on Facebook, Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed emphasized his commitment to his role, vowing to provide rigorous scrutiny of the government’s actions. Reflecting on his six-hour and thirty-seven-minute session in Parliament, he expressed concern over the government’s proposed $1.558 trillion budget, which he claims offers little for the average citizen.

Mohamed criticized the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) administration, stating that the budget fails to fulfill promises made during the campaign. “What I witnessed in Parliament was troubling. Despite their assurances, this budget does not deliver for the common man,” he declared in his post.
He affirmed that his party, The Working People’s Alliance (WIN), will continue to hold the administration accountable. “Over the coming days, during our budget presentations, we will expose the gaps, inconsistencies, and misplaced priorities within this budget,” he wrote, asserting that it primarily benefits those connected to the PPP rather than the broader population.
Highlighting the critical socioeconomic situation in Guyana, Mohamed lamented the government’s lack of prioritization for its citizens, as 58% of the population lives in poverty and faces rising living costs. “It’s sad that the government has chosen not to prioritize the people at such a critical time,” he said.
He called for collective action, urging citizens to make their voices heard in the upcoming elections. “Change will only come when we, together, decide that enough is enough. Your voice matters, and every single vote counts,” Mohamed emphasized. He concluded, “This budget is not for you. This is another one for them.”
The Opposition Leader’s statements underscore the ongoing tensions between the government and opposition parties as they navigate the challenging economic landscape in Guyana.
