Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of 20-year-old Kevin Smith from Baramita, Northwest District, who lost his life following a domestic dispute involving his partner, 19-year-old Nadria James.

In a statement, Mohamed emphasized the urgent need to address domestic violence in Guyana, noting, “Too many families are being destroyed by domestic violence. This is no isolated incident; just days ago, we dealt with another case involving a man stabbing his wife before ingesting poison. We must prioritize counseling and mental health support for both men and women.”
He called for collective attention and collaborative action to combat domestic violence, stressing that “violence is never the answer.” Mohamed urged the public to take responsibility to break the cycle of violence, stating, “Tragedies of this kind should not continue to plague our nation.”
